What we measured
We estimated one day and one hotel night for groups of two, three, and four across 50 cities, covering accommodation, a four-seater rideshare, group meals, a private tour, paid attractions, and contactless readiness. Costs use USD-base estimates with fixed illustrative conversion rates of USD 1, EUR 0.92, and GBP 0.78.
Data source framework: Google Hotels and Booking.com for accommodation, Numbeo and local operators for meals and rideshares, Viator and GetYourGuide for private tours, official attraction pages for admissions, and central-bank and payments-industry reports for contactless readiness.
How scoring works
Costs are recalculated for each group size before being divided per person. Affordability is normalised within the selected traveller group and weighted at 65%, while contactless readiness contributes 35%. Higher scores indicate lower individual costs and easier cash-free spending, and tied rounded scores are ordered using the unrounded result.
Limitations and interpretation
The headline saving is the average per-person difference between travelling as a pair and as a group of four across all 50 cities.
