The Squad Savings Index
Two is company. Four is the sweet spot. We compared 50 city breaks to reveal where a squad can save the most by sharing the stay, the ride, and the experience.
Your best travel deal might be in your group chat.
Solo travel can carry a premium, while pairs still leave seats and rooms underused. Our model finds the per-person sweet spot at four travellers, when taxis, apartments and private experiences are used at full capacity.

We modelled a one-day city break for groups of two, three and four across 50 international destinations. All costs are presented in US dollars to make cities directly comparable.
- 4-seater rideshare efficiency: an estimated daily taxi and rideshare total divided by group size.
- Housing ratio: the total price of a central short-stay apartment divided by the estimated cost of the hotel rooms required for the selected group. A ratio below 1.00× means the apartment costs less.
- Group pass: an estimated per-person city attractions or transport pass.
- Private tours: a representative private group experience divided evenly across travellers.
- Group meals: the estimated cost of one shared casual meal divided evenly across the selected group.
- Contactless and card penetration: the estimated share of common visitor transactions that can be completed by contactless card.
For each selected group size, the final score combines total per-person affordability (65%) with contactless readiness (35%). The ranking recalculates for groups of two, three and four. Higher scores indicate lower individual costs and easier cash-free group spending.
